My wife and I, and my inlaws travelled from Derbyshire and stayed at The Linden, Stansted Mountfitchet for one night on 27 Oct 2024 before a family event the next day. The establishment, rooms and service on the Sunday and Monday morning was excellent and the hotel is well positioned in Stansted. The joint owner Victoria is an excellent host, demonstrating how hospitality can be delivered; she is a role model for the staff and though we only had breakfast (also well presented and friendly staff), I understand Victoria's partner is a highly regarded chef. When we arrived mid-afternoon I went to check in and the Sunday lunches looked excellent. If you are looking for food and/or accommodation I would highly recommend considering The Linden. Sunday Roast – Highly Recommended! I appreciate a decent review so I'm taking my time to write one here. Having lived in Stansted for seven years, I’ve seen The Linden change ownership a couple of times. I’ve popped in for a drink before when passing by, but never actually sat down for a meal. This weekend, I fancied a Sunday roast somewhere within walking distance, and The Linden had space available with an easy online booking system. Price-wise, it was only a couple of quid more than some of the nearby pubs, so I thought, why not? And honestly, I’m so glad I did. The venue itself is stunning—old-world charm with wooden beams, yet it feels modern, stylish, and upmarket without being pretentious. The decor is warm and inviting, with a really cosy yet spacious feel. You’re not crammed in like in some places, and it’s immaculately clean. There’s a great atmosphere, with gentle background music that adds to the experience without being intrusive. Now onto the service—absolutely spot on. Sadie (I think that was her name!) was fantastic—attentive, incredibly polite, and checked on us just the right amount of times. You know when someone just gets the balance right? Not too much, not too little—just perfect. And then there’s the food. I had the sirloin of beef roast, and I genuinely can’t fault a single thing. The beef was cooked perfectly—tender, flavourful, and just the right level of pink in the middle. Every single vegetable was cooked to perfection—not too soft, not too hard, just right. The roast potatoes were full of flavour, crispy on the outside, fluffy inside, and the gravy? Perfect. The right consistency, the right depth of flavour, and just the right amount—I didn’t need more or less, it was spot on. My little one had the chicken roast, and I had a taste—honestly, I didn’t even know chicken could be that soft! It was cooked to perfection, so tender and juicy. All in all, this was one of the best Sunday roasts I’ve had in a long time. The Linden is a great alternative to the usual pubs—more spacious, cosier, and just that bit more refined. It’s a proper treat-yourself kind of place without being over the top. If you’re looking for a fantastic roast dinner in a lovely setting with great service, I can’t recommend it enough. Would I come back? Absolutely.

Stayed here for a night back in February and it was the most cozy place to arrive to after a very long travel day. The shower and tub was AMAZING I picked my room for this reason and it didn’t disappoint. The bed was cozy and everything was clean. Adam was very attentive and helpful with the check in and out process, I had continental breakfast dropped at my door the next morning. They allowed me to leave my suitcase the day of check out so I could have lunch in town before heading to my next location. Would recommend and would stay again!
